Higher, lighter, further - Gothic cathedrals are fascinating and offer a surprising number of parallels to current issues in architecture. Which power constellations, which technical innovations, which financial resources made their creation possible?

In the French region of Hauts-de-France, the tallest and most statically daring Gothic cathedrals can still be visited today. We visited them and their cities on our excursion, observed the development of their architecture to this day and investigated questions about the emergence and decay of advanced cultures. In addition to the medieval cathedrals, we also discovered modern and contemporary architecture, including Art Deco works, buildings by Auguste Perret and current French architecture firms.

Our route took us to Reims, Laon, Noyon, Amiens, the twin town St.-Quentin and back via Chalons-en-Champagne.
